British people have been misled to believe that sharia courts are OK in UK too. This woman speaks out against it, in Bahrain:

There is discrimination against Muslim women in UK when they are left to Sharia courts to carry on oppressing them. The inter-faith working has done a lot of damage in UK as it has been used to oppress the rights of all women in UK. In my old medical school, even the names of the wards have been changed in order not to honour the great women in the history of the medical school. Time for change again, I say.
